Artificial intelligence is already transforming local public management. The question is how to do it in a way that is grounded in local realities, institutions, and citizens.
At Red de Innovación Local, we have launched the Local Security AI Agent, a tool designed to support municipalities in developing strategies, conducting participatory diagnostics, and making more informed decisions on citizen security.
More than 120 people joined the launch webinar, where we discussed the opportunities and challenges of incorporating AI into local government while keeping what matters most at the center: communities and people.
The event featured Mariana Foglia and Inés Buchara, Coordinator and Leader of the Cities for Security Program, as well as Guadalupe Dorna, AI Agents Lead. Our special guest was Gustavo Restrepo, a renowned Colombian architect and urban planner, who shared valuable reflections on the role of technology in cities:
“A safer city also depends on educated citizens, strong institutions, and better-informed decisions. In that context, Artificial Intelligence can become a useful tool in service of the public good.”
This Agent was developed as an open and accessible resource aimed at strengthening local capacities in citizen security for municipalities of all sizes. We invite local governments across the region to explore it, test it, and help improve it collectively.
