A specialized agent for integrated urban solid waste management (GIRSU) is now available within the artificial intelligence (AI) of the RIL Portal. It provides guidance based on real-life cases, the methodology and tools of the Circular Cities acceleration program, and the network’s 12 years of experience, supporting municipal teams at every stage of waste management.
Integrated urban solid waste management is one of the most recurring issues among municipalities in the network: how to optimize waste collection, how to regulate large waste generators, and how to move toward a circular economy. These are technical decisions with a direct impact on the territory, yet many local teams do not have a waste management specialist available on an ongoing basis to answer specific questions or help plan next steps.
To address this need, we have added a specialized GIRSU agent to the AI of the RIL Portal. It can be accessed within the portal through a text-based conversation and is the second specialized agent offered by the platform, alongside the agent specialized in security. It is available to registered users.
Unlike a generic search engine, this agent was trained by the RIL team using the network’s 12 years of experience and real cases from municipalities that have gone through waste management processes. This allows it to provide responses tailored to each city’s context, rather than standardized recommendations.
It can support municipal teams with tasks such as:
Optimizing waste collection and material treatment.
Designing regulations related to different aspects of waste management.
Planning citizen awareness campaigns.
Working on the restoration of micro- and macro-dumpsites.
Learning about successful cases from across the country on this topic.
Defining circular economy strategies.
The agent works conversationally: before providing a recommendation, it asks which city the user is from, whether the municipality already has a structured environmental department, and what the main waste-related challenge they are facing is. Based on these answers, it adapts the conversation to the specific reality of each team, rather than providing a one-size-fits-all response.
It is available to registered RIL Portal users within the platform’s AI. Those who already have an account can start chatting with it now; those who have not yet registered can do so to access this and the other specialized agents offered by the network.
This agent is another way in which RIL puts its accumulated experience at the service of local governments, making it directly available for consultation through the portal.
